How might our creative expressions and responses manifest through our art, stories, heritage and lives? What’s our duty and agency as Tangata Tiriti? What does care, resilience, and allyship look like for our communities? What brings us joy and connection in these difficult times?

Toi Rauwhārangi College of Creative Arts was proud to present our 2022 programme for students, staff, alumni and community members in Pōneke Wellington that centred Asian Tauiwi arts, whakapapa, whanaungatanga and cultural wellness in our current times.

The programme (which ran from 23 Sep - 10 October 2022) featured presentations, workshops and gatherings with our partners, Te Papa Tongarewa Museum of New Zealand and Wai-te-ata Press. On occasion of this programme, we warmly welcomed Marc Conaco as our inaugural Asian Aotearoa Artist-in-residence at Toi Rauwhārangi College of Creative Arts for 2022. Marc is a queer Bisaya graphic designer, illustrator, zine-maker and amateur farmer based in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa who's on an ongoing journey of decolonisation and indigenisation.

Programme highlights included a film screening about Chinese character typography, a mixtape sonic workshop, a project focusing on Asian mental health in Aotearoa, a curated AAA research and library reading room, and an audience with our newest New Zealand Poet Laureate, Chris Tse.

This programme was free and open to everyone. Those with Asian whakapapa were especially encouraged to join.
